Jean-Claude Louis is an Alsace, France, native and self-taught artist working with traditional film, digital photography, digital processing and printmaking techniques to create images that explore themes of the natural and man-made world.
His creative processes are a reflection of his training as a physician and scientist and the 30 years he spent in biomedical research in France and the USA. He approaches his artwork in much the same way he approached science: through continuous exploration and experimentation.
Trees are a favorite motif, but he is not particular about subject matter. He photographs landscapes, seascapes, flowers, plants, reflections, cityscapes, still life, portraits – and despite the variety his aesthetic is distinctive. He finds fascination in transforming it into a subjective point of view. Working with color, light, shadows, contrast and texture, sometimes combining multiples photographs, he seeks to make images with visual appeal, and the enchantment and poetry follow.
Jean-Claude resides in Seattle with his wife, Ella, and since 2009 he has been a professional artist selling his works at juried art festivals.
Jean-Claude prints his current work on brushed aluminum, which is done by infusing dyes directly into coated ChromaLuxe aluminum plates using heat and pressure. This process offers superb color and sharpness, and the infused image take on an almost magical luminescence.
The printing is done under his supervision at a professional lab and each image is individually profiled.
Metal prints are waterproof and have an ultrahard scratch-, moisture- and UV-resistant coating. They will last for generations when displayed indoors and out of direct sunlight. The surface of the prints can be cleaned easily with a microfiber towel and any commercial glass cleaner.
The photographs are available ready to hang, either frameless (with a float mount block) or mounted on a double frame made of anodized aluminum (flush-mount or recessed-mount).
All work is limited in editions of 10-50 in each size produced, signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
